Pittsburg (KS) defensive end Trevor Kent announced his college choice earlier this afternoon, as the three-star prospect has verbally committed to Northwestern.

"It's a top academic school," Kent said of the Big Ten university. "They have an unmatched coaching staff, and really put academics first."

The 6-foot-4, 252-pound junior is the top prospect in Kansas for 2017. With twelve scholarships to his credit from the likes of Michigan, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, Kent chose Northwestern and brought an early end to his recruitment.

"The guys on the team are the kind I want to be around," he continued about the Wildcats. "I can picture myself being apart of it. It's a beautiful campus, my family loves it, and that's where my heart is telling me to go."

After talking with several programs about playing tight end, the Purple Dragons standout will play DE for the Wildcats. Reflecting on the efforts of head coach Pat Fitzgerald and his staff as he moved through the recruiting process, Kent knew Northwestern was the place for him.

"I haven't seen or met a coaching staff that comes close to Northwestern's," the Sunflower State product said. "They are all players coaches. They are honest during the recruiting process, and share the same morals and goals as me."

"They are the kind of people I want to be around," Kent said, describing the Wildcats staff. "I especially love Coach Long, the D-line coach, and Head Coach Fitz."
